4 Things We Love About Living In A Van

1) Freedom to travel anywhere

We love living in a caravan as it allows us to move around freely to wherever we want to want to be. If we want to park our caravan close to a cliff with an Ocean view, we can or if we want to be in the mountains we can. We love being able to just up and move. To be without restriction of location is right up our alley.

2) Living the minimalist lifestyle

Ruth and I had been road tripping and living in various Airbnb’s all over the country before we decided to buy “Stan” our Van. One thing we have learnt to love is that you really don’t need that much in order to survive and live a life of abundance and happiness. All of our clothes could fit into one suitcase and then we have a few other van essentials and our laptops...we wouldn’t have it any other way. If you have ever heard the saying “less is more” well its definitely true! It's quite something living an uncluttered life and being able to love the few things you do have.

3) The financial benefits

The financial benefits of living in a van are endless. Buying a van is a fraction of the cost of buying a house and having a mortgage/bond. You might even be able to buy a fixer upper like we did, turn it into a beautiful home and actually make some money at the end of your adventures. Apart from this your monthly costs are much lower than renting an apartment or staying in Airbnb’s especially if you are staying somewhere for a month or more. This will allow you to keep your biggest budget item, your housing, super low. This will help you keep a small budget and be able to save money for things that are more important to you.

4) Being able to add adventure into your daily routine

We love being able to go for a swim in the ocean or do some morning exercise on the beach or hike up a mountain or experience being close to wildlife. Living in a van allows you to do this on the daily. Living in a van makes its super easy to live a more adventures lifestyle as everything is right on your doorstep. It’s so conveniently close that there’s almost no excuse to get out there and make some memories.
